Grand Challenges – Sustainable Cities grant won

Killing Architects, together with Kate Crawford, Camillo Boano and Brent Pilkey, has won a Grand Challenges – Sustainable Cities grant from University College London to continue with the (re)constructing the city research on integrating urbanism into humanitarian response.

The grant will be used to bring a social anthopological perspective to the project.  In November 2012 we ran a one-day workshop bringing together urbanists and humanitarians to work in mixed teams on a neighbourhood planning exercise and we recorded each team’s collaboration process. We are going to analyse those recordings, to look for the points of agreement and conflict and to see how we can trace those things back to individual personalities, the different ways in which humanitarians and urbanists organise their institutions and their work and the different philosophies which underpin the disciplines.
